When rail is the right choice
The main advantages of rail transport are load capacity and cost. It makes it convenient to carry bulky and heavy cargo that is difficult or expensive to move by road.
In addition, rail depends less on weather and road conditions than road transport.
On long overland routes rail often becomes a compromise between sea and air: in transit time and in cost it sits between the two.
Container or wagon
By rail, cargo travels in a container or in a wagon, depending on its nature. A container is convenient when part of the journey is by sea or by road: it is transferred whole, without handling the goods.
For long and heavy loads suitable rolling stock is selected. These tasks are handled by the oversized cargo department.
What the transport arrangement includes
A station is rarely close to the warehouse, so rail almost always works together with road transport. We put such a chain together as multimodal transport. It includes:
- delivery of the cargo to the departure station
- preparation of the transport documents
- carriage by rail
- customs clearance
- collection from the station and delivery to the consignee’s warehouse
What we need for a quote
For heavy and large cargo, please also state the dimensions and weight of each package: they determine the choice of rolling stock.

How long does cargo take by rail?
Transit time depends on the route, border crossings, customs clearance and delivery to and from the station. We give an indication of transit time together with the cost calculation.
Which cargo is worth sending by rail?
Primarily large and heavy consignments: rail is distinguished by its load capacity and moderate cost. We will tell you after the calculation whether it suits your cargo.
Can a small consignment be sent by rail?
It depends on the route. When calculating, we will compare rail with groupage delivery and propose the better option.
Will you deliver the cargo from the station to our warehouse?
Yes. We work door to door: we arrange delivery to the departure station and collection from the destination station.
Which documents are needed?
Usually these are the foreign trade contract, invoice, packing list and railway consignment note. Some goods require permits. The exact list depends on the goods.
Do you carry oversized cargo by rail?
The company has a department for oversized cargo. The mode of transport and route for such cargo are selected individually; please send its dimensions and weight.
