What counts as oversized cargo
Oversized cargo is cargo that, by size or weight, does not fit standard transport: a container, an ordinary semi-trailer or a rail wagon. Most often this is industrial equipment, machine tools, construction and agricultural machinery, tanks and metal structures.
Such cargo cannot be broken down into standard units, so the transport and route are chosen to suit it.
How the transport works
This is a narrow, specialised field: it uses special vehicles and equipment that make it possible to move large cargo. The company has a department that deals specifically with oversized transport. Work on a shipment includes:
- studying the cargo from drawings and diagrams
- selecting the transport and route
- arranging permits and approvals, where the route requires them
- loading, securing and transport
- customs clearance
What determines the route
The route for oversized cargo is chosen not by the shortest path but by what is passable. We take into account the height of bridges and tunnels, road load limits, and the capabilities of ports and stations.
For this reason a single shipment may combine road transport, rail and sea. We build such a chain as multimodal transport.
Each such route is worked out separately; there are no ready-made solutions here.

How long does such a shipment take?
The time depends on the route, the mode of transport and whether permits and approvals are needed. We give an indication of timing together with the cost quote.
How do I know whether my cargo is oversized?
If it does not fit into a standard container or semi-trailer by its dimensions, or exceeds the usual weight limits. Send us the dimensions and weight, and we will tell you what transport can be used.
Are permits needed for oversized transport?
On many routes, yes. The requirements depend on the size and weight of the cargo and on the countries it passes through. We will tell you what is needed in your case when preparing the quote.
We have no drawings. What should we send?
The dimensions and weight of each package, photographs of the cargo and its exact description. That is enough for a preliminary quote.
Can the equipment be dismantled so that it can be moved by ordinary transport?
Sometimes that is more cost-effective. Whether the equipment may be dismantled is for you and the manufacturer to decide; we will calculate transport both dismantled and assembled.
Do you handle customs clearance of the equipment?
Yes, we arrange customs clearance as part of the transport. Our specialists will help with any customs procedure.
