CMA CGM Raises Asia-Mediterranean Rates, Adds Surcharges for November

In brief: CMA CGM announced new Freight All Kind rate levels and two additional surcharges on routes from Asia to the Mediterranean, Adriatic, Black Sea and North Africa, effective between November 1 and November 14, 2026.

The new FAK rates range from $4,900 per 40-foot container to the West Mediterranean up to $7,100 to North Africa, with the Adriatic, East Mediterranean and Black Sea set at $5,000-$5,200; rates include bunker and EU Emissions Trading System charges but exclude terminal handling and local fees. CMA CGM also added a $150-per-container peak season surcharge on routes from the west coast of South America to the Americas, Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand from November 1, and a €150-per-TEU surcharge from Northern Europe to North Africa, excluding Spain, Portugal and Morocco, from November 7. The increases follow a broader rise in Asia-Europe ocean rates, with Drewry’s World Container Index showing Shanghai-Rotterdam up 6% and Shanghai-Genoa up 7% this week.

Importers and exporters booking Asia-Mediterranean capacity for early November should expect higher landed freight costs and factor the new surcharges into contract negotiations, particularly on North Africa and trans-Mediterranean lanes where increases are steepest.
