Technical outage halts container handling at Le Havre terminal

Technical outage halts container handling at Le Havre terminal

In brief: A technical incident at the Terminaux de Normandie, which operates container terminals at the port of Le Havre, has suspended container pick-ups and drop-offs. As of mid-October, operators had not confirmed when handling would resume.

The outage affects one of France’s busiest container gateways, used by major shipping lines calling at Le Havre’s deep-water Port 2000 facility. Logistics providers including Kuehne+Nagel reported that the disruption was ongoing and has been flagged by carriers as a factor outside their control. No cause has been officially confirmed by the terminal operator.

For importers and exporters routing cargo through Le Havre, the outage means delays to gate-in and gate-out operations and possible knock-on effects for vessel schedules and inland transport bookings. Shippers with cargo moving through the port should expect congestion once the terminal reopens, as a backlog of containers works through the system, and should confirm current handling status with their carrier or forwarder before planning pick-ups.
